Are Fruits and Veggies in Season Higher in Antioxidants?

There are several reasons to eat “in season“. When you eat seasonal fruits, herbs and vegetables, you are eating locally grown items. This supports the local environment and economy and keeps prices low. It also means that your food is not being shipped thousands of miles before becoming part of dinner. But, as far as we’re concerned, one of the best reasons to eat with the seasons is this:

The skin thrives on an abundance of these nutrients. The pigments from each fruit and veggie turn into the antioxidants that settle in your skin to protect you from oxidative and sun damage? You will absorb the highest amount of nutrient the less you cook them…so it’s best to eat fruits and veggies as raw as possible: in salads, juiced, lightly blanched and tossed into your favorite recipes, whatever makes you happy!
