It’s officially Octiber, which makes it officially Pumpkin Spice latte season. For many, this sweet beverage is one of the very best things about fall. Since I just came off a two month no-sugar regime…this drink is a form of sugar-based torture. Soooooo sweet!! I was interested in the ingredients and did some research. (For those of who who wish to continue enjoying this drink – please overt your eyes)
The ingredients posted for the pumpkin sauce / syrup alone are:
SUGAR, CONDENSED NONFAT MILK, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, ANNATO (FOR COLOR), NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, CARAMEL COLOR, SALT, POTASSIUM SORBATE (PRESERVATIVE)… mmmmmmm, the taste of fall!
Anyway…since I will not be enjoying any of these this season…I wanted to find a great alternative. Enter Numi organic teas. I LOVE this tea company! Organic, healthy and great tasting! Their chai rooibos is amazing – especially when I did this to it:
Pumpkin Chai Latte
numi chai rooibos tea, (one bag steeped in purified water)
almond / hazelnut milk*, steamed
cinnamon and nutmeg (or pumpkin pie spice)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Now, that’s better isnt it? Guilt free fall in a cup! *Recipe for almond / hazelnut milk coming soon!!
