Enzymes: Papain and Bromelain
Papain, an enzyme from papaya, and bromelain, and enzyme from pineapple, both exfoliate by digesting intercorneocyte cohesion (decomposing proteins into smaller fragments causing skin softening and sloughing). These enzymes are not pH dependent, they are activated by water and limited in the amount of exfoliating they can do – so they are considered a great choice for sensitive or thin skins.

Free Radicals:

Oxygen is vital for human life; it is needed for the production of energy. However, it can also be dangerous because it causes the production of free radicals. A free radical is an unstable molecule that can damage cell structures in the search for an extra electron. The job of antioxidants is to neutralize these free radicals by supplying to extra electron, dissipating the threat they cause.

  • Cigarette smoke
  • Car exhaust
  • Processed foods
