Epsom salts are a must for your at-home spa pantry! I always have raw honey, coconut oil and espom salts on hand for quick spa recipes. Epsom salts are easy to find, inexpensive and therapeutic – what more could one ask for in an ingredient?
Epsom salt isn’t actually a salt. It’s Magnesium, pure and simple. Since farming was industrialized years ago, our soil has been seriously depleted of magnesium, and we need this little mineral for good health. Many of us are getting extra magnesium through vitamin supplements, but it is also readily absorbed through the skin. Soaking in Epsom salts can have the following benefits:
Lower blood pressure – improved heart health
Regulates sugar in blood
Removes toxins and heavy metals from the body
Eases sore muscles
Improves mood by boosting serotonin levels
Improves electrolyte regulation
Can prevent or help migraines
Increases nutrient absorption
I love using Epsom Salts in soaks and scrubs for bath-time. Here are my two favorite Espom Salt Recipes:
5 drops lavender essential oil
5 drops chamomile essential oil
2 drops geranium essential oil
1 cup Epsom Salts
1 tbsp crushed dried lavender
Combine essential oils
Add oils to Epsom salts
Add in dried Lavender
Pour Soak into warm bath
Soak for at least 20 minutes
* Option to use 5 drops of peppermint essential oil instead of geranium and use as foot soak instead of bath soak!
1 cup Epsom Salts
1/3 cup coconut oil
5 drops orange essential oil
3 drops peppermint essential oil
Wet skin in shower then step out of shower stream
Massage scrub in upward circular motion, one area at a time
Follow with appropriate moisturizer out of shower
*be careful with sensitive parts and do not use on face
*This information is not meant to replace medical advice – Soaking in Epsom Salts can lower blood pressure, so those with already low blood pressure should be mindful of this.
