Sanitas Vitamin C Products: Not All Vitamin C is Created Equal

For dietary purposes, we love the idea of receiving as much Vitamin C from whole foods as possible. Fruits and Veggies are chalk full of this wondrous, youth-inducing antioxidant. USDA recommends at least 5 servings each day for optimal health – we think that you may want to consider doubling that number…or tripling it even. One pear or tangerine is equal to one serving of fruit. One green drink could be up to 3 servings. One healthy, veggie-filled salad could be 3 or more servings…you get the idea.

For skincare purposes, however, you need to think about topical application of Vitamin C for optimal supplementation. Topical Vitamin C tends to be very unstable and can even backfire, boosting free radical production in the skin, if applied incorrectly or in the wrong form. But don’t fret quite yet…we will make sure you have the information you need to properly equip your skin with it’s daily dose of Vitamin C!

According to the biochemists at Sanitas Skincare, a beloved facial care line from the Rocky Mountains, Vitamin C is the most effective ingredient for preventing the signs of aging and maximizing skin health by increasing self-healing mechanisms and boosting antioxidant protection.

“Sanítas formulates with Ascorbyl Palmitate and Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, the most stable, lipophilic forms of Vitamin C. The Vitamin C found in Sanítas formulations is superior to the water soluble Vitamin C, L-Ascorbic Acid found in most other brands. It penetrates beneath the skin’s surface to visibly improve skin texture, accelerate healing and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Nourish your skin with the most effective Vitamin C products available!” – Sanitas Skincare

Here’s a brief breakdown of our two favorite forms of Vitamin C:

Ascorbyl Palmitate
Ascorbyl palmitate is a fat-soluble antioxidant use din skincare and dietary supplements. It is unique because one end of the molecule is water-soluble and the other end is fat-soluble. This ‘dual solubility’ allows it to be easily and fully absorbed and used in your skin cell membranes. It has also shown to protect, or re-boost Vitamin E in the body.

Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate
This form of Vitamin C is made by taking the natural Vitamin C molecule and attaching 4 extra molecules to the corners of the Vitamin C molecule. This new molecule, called Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate has a number of important advantages. It is lipid soluble just like your skin which means that it easily penetrates into the skin. It does not require a low pH to get it to penetrate the skin so it does not sting. It stimulates your skin to make its own natural moisturizers called glycosaminoglycans. Glycosaminoglycans will allow your skin to absorb moisture from your body which reduces the need for applying other moisturizers. It is stable in air and water for up to 18 months which means it will work as an anti-oxidant long after you start using it. -Epilution Med Spa, Florida
