Ingredient to Love: Lemongrass

We love Lemongrass! The clean, sweet, almost candy-like scent of lemongrass essential oil is right up at the top of our list. Lemongrass is an herb native to India and Sri Lanka and is characterized by its tall, straight, bright green leaves. It is a regular ingredient in Indian and Thai cuisine, but has many therapeutic and beautifying properties as well. You can drink lemongrass tea, use lemongrass oil on the skin, hair and nails, or look for it in your favorite cleanser, toner or body scrub!

The herb also acts as a mosquito repellent. In addition, the application or ingestion of lemongrass can help alleviate various skin issues, from large pores to fungal infections.  –

Lemongrass is considered to have both antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. When ingested it will aid in cleansing of the digestive system and help to prevent bacteria in the gut. Used as a topical ingredient, lemongrass helps cleanse and tone the skin, limiting excess oil, dirt and bacteria. According to aromatherapy, the essential oil is also known to have an uplifting effect on the mind when used properly.

We absolutely love this article on Lemongrass from Aura Cacia. They’ve even provided home-made spa recipes!
