Ingredient to love: Acai


We love acai! We love it so much that, for the month of February, we are highlighting this powerful superfruit in our special facial. Acai berries are found throughout Central and South America and have been popular in recent years here in the states as the new “it” food for energy, detoxification and nutrition.

Acai contains powerful antioxidants called anthocyanins and flavonoids. Both of these play a huge role in protecting the body against free radicals and oxidative stress. They can also aid in the body’s cell protection system. This is tremendously helpful for your skin because oxidative stress and free radical damage are leading causes of inflammation, dermal thinning and premature aging. Not only does your skin receive these benefits when adding acai to your diet, it can also benefit from direct, topical use of acai. Acai has been added to many serums and lotions to boost antioxidant levels, but the easiest way to use it topically – and the most fun – is in mask form.

Acai Antioxidant Mask

1 tbsp acai powder (you can also use frozen (thawed) or fresh acai, if that’s available to you)
1 tbsp raw organic honey
1 tbsp organic, full fat, plain yogurt

Mix all ingredients together
apply to clean, damp skin for at least 20 minutes
Rinse thoroughly and apply appropriate moisturizer or serum

This mask is great to do once a week and can be applied after an enzyme mask, like Osmosis Polish or Sanitas Payapa Mask!
