We love Kauai! Did we mention that already? With 500 different shades of green and blue, the unforgettable scent of plumeria and grass in the air, the sound of waves crashing onto the lava rock beaches and tropical birds calling out sweetly, and the almost spiritual experience of looking up from the ocean to see the sleeping giants of the Na Pali…What’s not to love?
Oh, and we can’t forget these amazing spas:
South Kauai: Anara Spa
Located on the magnificent Grand Hyatt in Poipu is Anara Spa. Indulge in a special Hawaiian Lomi Lomi or Hot Stone Massage. Treat your skin with a signature facial with indigenous ingredients like coconut, noni, papaya and ti leaves (the same leaves used to make so many hawaiin products, including grass skirts). Want a truly unique spa experience? Then pamper yourself with our favorite Anara body treatment, featuring Kauai’s own Malie Organics body products!
Kauai’s own lilikoi (passion fruit) combines with lemongrass, mango and coconut to hydrate your skin and elevate your spirit. A soothing scalp massage is followed by a body exfoliation with organic lilikoi and Hawaiian salts. A steamed lemongrass aloe face treatment and a massage with skin-quenching mango butter follows to release all remaining tension.
110 minutes, $350
West Kauai: A Hideaway Spa
Waimea Plantation Cottages’ newly expanded spa, A Hideaway Spa, is nestled in a lush coconut grove on the Western Coast of the Garden Island. This local favorite combines spa and health philosophies from Old Hawaii. This spa provides many signature spa therapies as well as a full service salon, boutique, beachfront yopga platform and meditation classes. Whether its a massage under the canopy of a shady Kukui Nut Tree or a body scrub handmade with local ingredients like Kava Kava, honey, seaweed, and citrus, A Hideaway Spa allows you to experience true Aloha Spirit!
Northeast Kauai: Hanalei Day Spa
Another local favorite, Hanalei Day Spa, is a beautiful addition to the Hanalei Colony Resort on the North Coast of Kauai. This spa balances pampering spa treatments with healing Ayurvedic therapies to provide a truly unique spa experience. We could have used this after our 4-hour hike up the Na Pali Coast!
In the mood for a little yoga? We love Kalaheo Yoga
There are almost as many Yoga studios in Kauai as there are in my hometown of Encinitas, CA. The Yoga philosophy is well respected in Kauai, maybe because it embodies so many Hawaiian mantras. The spirit of Aloha is the ability to live truly in the present, enjoying the beauty that surrounds you and respecting a slower pace of life. Yoga allows you to fully experience this feeling, especially when the class you’re taking is on the beach or nestled between a bright green coffee field and rolling, fragrant hills…like our favorite: Kalaheo Yoga.
