We watched The Business of Being Born this weekend (much to my husband’s excitement) and I must say that I was surprised at how much I learned. This documentary by well-known talk show host Ricki Lake, is an in-depth look at some of the birthing practices in the United States. While the film does focus on home birth vs. hospital birth (and is definitely pro-midwife,) it also touches on the history of birthing and compares the stats in the US to those around the world.
As a female in her 30s, I thought I knew a decent amount about pregnancy and childbirth, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out there was much more to learn. I have many clients who are moms and moms-to-be, so watching this film helped me to connect more with what they are going through in many ways. I definitely felt honored to be a woman and amazed at what the human body can do.
Just thought I’d share. Have any of you seen this film? There is also an entire website dedicated to natural birthing at www.businessofbeingborn.com
