Bocas Yoga and Red Frog Resort Spa

Bocas is my kind of place…let me explain. I think its very telling when any city or town has more yoga studios and spas than paved roads and ATMs.

Bocas Yoga is one of the more popular studios, owned by yogini Laura Kay, who moved to Bocas from Tuscon, AZ roughly 8 years ago and wanted to establish a genuine yoga community in the beautiful but sometimes sleepy island town of Bocas.

Yoga Fusion is another popular studio located a short walk away in Bocas town. They blend vinyasa flow with pilates and bar method to provide a twist (pun intended) to your normal yoga routine.

For those who are searching for more of a yoga retreat, Tesoro Escondido in Bocas is a great choice. Tesoro is made up of a large wooden beach front home and several ocean view cabins spread throughout beautiful gardens and lush vegetation. Your stay includes healthy meals, comfortable rooms (shared or private), daily yoga sessions, water activities and unlimited use of their cozy hammocks (a necessity for mid day rainstorms.)

While we were not able to make it to these yoga classes ourselves, we were told that they have become one of the more popular forms of exercise enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. It seems as though southern California’s yoga lovers would be welcomed with open arms while vacationing in Bocas.

Our resort at Red Frog Beach on Isla Bastimentos also had private yoga classes available every Sunday morning at the spa. We did manage to make it here…and after all the snorkeling, swimming, zip-lining and hiking, we were ready for some much needed massages.

The Spa at Red Frog Beach is located at the top of a hill overlooking the ocean and distant islands. Housed in a luxurious villa with a private pool and outdoor shower, this spa felt like our own personal retreat. The small spa consists of two rather large treatment rooms, each with a private or adjoining bathroom. Travertine floors and stone walls are balanced with large windows that opened to bright flowers and the deep green tones of the jungle brush. The interior décor is modest in neutral and natural tones of green and brown, dotted with specks of bright red to invoke the Red Frog this island is known for. They even have a large scale painting of the island mascot on the wall of the reception area.

The spa offers both relaxation and deep tissue massage, facials, nail services and hair and scalp conditioning treatments. The staff happily accommodates guests in the spa or will bring their massage tables to your rental on the resort property. Our visit to the Spa at Red Frog Beach Resort recharged us midway through our trip and we were soon back off on another adventure!
