Are you Obsessed with Lip Balm?
My husband sure is. Countless times each day I hear, “Honey, do you have any lip balm?” or “Where’s the chap-stick?”
Yes, I just threw him under the bus, but I did it to serve the greater good – to get the word out once more about lip balm addiction and help explain it for the sake of the innocent out there. Lip balm, everything from Carmex to Lancome’s Juicy Tubes, is addictive and feeding this addiction has contributed millions to the Cosmetic Industry.

The active ingredients in lip balm, ingredients like beeswax, silicone, mineral oil and other petroleum derivatives are occlusive. They sit atop the skin creating a barrier. This barrier helps prevent skin moisture from evaporating, which provides immediate relief for dry chapped skin, but it also prevents the skin from breathing and tricks the skin into thinking that no extra moisture is needed. Therefore the skin doesn’t produce any extra oil or moisture for lubrication. (more…)

This Thanksgiving, I am grateful for many things: my loving family, great friends, inspiring clients…and my Aroma Bella Exfoliating Face Wash.
I have been alternating this cleanser with the Sanitas Lemon Cream Cleanser every other day and my skin is loving it! Aroma Bella, a boutique organic skin care line featuring potent antioxidants, essential oils and botanical extracts, hit the jackpot with this formulation…and my skin is grateful!
The Aroma Bella Exfoliating Face Wash lathers easily with just a bit of water without any Sodium Lauryl Sulfate to irritate or strip the skin of precious natural oils. A blend of green and white teas, carrot, ginkgo and rosehips provide antioxidant support and amazing fragrance. Apple and sugar extracts gently exfoliate the skin and remove makeup and debris.

Wax On, Wax Off

Waxing can be a great way to keep unwanted hairs at bay and prevent the irritation associated with shaving, but there are some ground rules to follow.
Try not to wax the entire face: Lips, chin, brow line…great…but leave the peach fuzz on the cheeks and forehead alone if at all possible. These hairs are responsible for softening your skin and the hair follicles produce oil to keep skin protected and moist. Removing these little hairs disturbs the natural balance in oil production and could lead to skin dryness. Dry skin wrinkles faster and easier than oily or balanced skin.
Don’t over tweeze your eyebrows in between waxing appointments. Tweeze only strays and leave the little hairs right around the natural shape of your brows. This way, your brows will keep their beautiful shape.

Can Caffeine Give You Wrinkles?
11/18/2009 In Skin Nutrition by bien-être
It just might! Caffeine can help pick up circulation and reduce under eye puffiness, but large amounts in your daily diet can lead to skin damage and premature aging. Research shows that caffeine raises cortisol and insulin levels. This gives you a jolt of energy, taking it away from other important functions like food digestion and elimination of toxins.
Caffeine places a large amount of stress on the body, which pushes it off balance. Too much caffeine daily can not only dehydrate your skin, it can lead to breakouts from improper digestion and stress. High cortisol levels will also increase free radical production, a large contributor to skin aging.
Before replacing your double mocha latte with a decaffeinated version, get this: (more…)

Skin Care to Save Your Hands

With the flu bug going around like never before, we are all taking extra precautions this fall season to stay healthy. Hand sanitizers and frequent hand washing are both extremely important steps to keeping harmful germs at bay..but this cleanliness comes at a cost – to our manicures. Maintaining healthy skin doesn’t stop at the neckline mind you.
Frequent washing and use of alcohol based sanitizers dries the skin, cuticles and nails causing a build-up of rough flaky skin and nail breakage. One way to prevent this is to apply lotion after every wash, making sure the base of the lotion is plant and nut oil and not petroleum. Occlusive ingredients like beeswax, mineral oils and silicone will only provide temporary relief from dryness. They also prevent the skin from breathing or producing moisture, so in the long run, they can actually make skin drier.
Instead of reaching for the Lubriderm, why not upgrade to something better?
Pure Fiji’s Coconut Body Lotion in White Gingerlily or Mango Pure Fiji Body Butter are two amazing moisture treatments for the skin and hands. (more…)
